I am reading The Other Side of Sark. It is by Joan Lowery Nixon. her books are quite interesting. there is always some kind of mystery. They usually have something to do with murder.
Hey comon, ray probably meant Dark, guys please spell check! And im reading "The Adventures and the Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes" by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. -Adam
i am reading a book from a series, its called sweep book of shadows by Cate Tiernan. I think its a good book. Because its about a girl who turns out to be a witch.
I actually just finished the book that will be our text for class, A History of US. I don't say this to sound too "teachy". I picked it up to use it for lesson plans, but got so wrapped up in the story, I couldn't put it down. I get like that with a good read. This history is told in the style of literary journalism, that is, it is a true account, but it is written to be read like a narrative fiction. This particular author tells about herself and why she chose to write history texts. When her daughter was the age most of you are now, she read the text used in her daughter's class and was BORED. She said she knew she could do better. I think she definately did. I can't wait for you all to read it and to the dialogue we will have about the many interesting, factual stories that are a part of America's history.
Within the past two weeks I've also read Sula, by Toni Morisson and The Lovely Bones, I forget by whom. The former was okay, but I didn't like it as much as I liked another work by Morrison called "The Bluest Eye". That happens a lot to me. I read one piece by a particular author, but then don't enjoy another. I think sometimes I get bored by a particular style or "voice". Sula is a story of two girls in the early part of the Twentieth Century (that's the 1900's) in America. It takes place before WWII and is a fiction account of a small town and its people. Toni Morrison's writing is powerful because of her use of language and imagery. Her ability to work with dialect is also amazing. I just didn't find the plot all that engaging. The Lovely Bones, on the other hand, was tremendous. In this fiction, a 14 year old girl dies and tells the story of what happened to her, and the people around her after she dies, from her perspective in heaven! It was a fresh and interesting perspective. I was shocked and amused throughout the story.
I will tell everyone that I read A LOT! So I am thrilled to have a place on our Blog to talk about Books. Now that I am no longer reading a screen in Chinese, I too will try to post each day and respond to your posts.
I am reading a book by HARPER LEE called "To kill a Mockingbird" It is good so far and it is not about killing a mockingbird, it is about a lawyer defending a black guy charged with the rape of a white girl. This took place in the deep south. Anyways I was reading this book because a substitute teacher recommended it to me.
