Make sure to give yourself a grade of 1-4 based on the data you find out from your folder, sourcebook, teacherease and blog.

Homework for tonight - post to this blog post

What kinds of sacrifices must be made to further a cause?

Sometimes when we really care about something we are moved to give up things that we would never concede under normal circumstances. In my house, my husband and I work very hard to keep things "Green" so we can do our part in helping fight against global warming. It started with small things like separating the garbage and changing the light bulbs. Then it became a way of life and it didn't seem like an inconvenience anymore. Next was becoming mindful of shutting lights and other electronic equipment.

This is just one example... I'm sure if you ask your parents the sacrifices they have had to make to give each of you what you need, they'd have a lot to say too!

Tonight's and Everyday's ongoing homework

If there is no new posted homework, you should take that time to start work on your projects. Research for this one will require you to maybe go to different libraries and not only work on the computer.

On Monday, you will have a working (not finished) works consulted due. This means all of the books and other sources you have gathered so far, will have to be put into the correct format to be handed in. This way, I can check them now and give the necessary help to make sure your final draft is absolutely correct.

see earlier posts for proper MLA style citation.

When is war justified

I think war being justified depends on what's going on. I don't agree with war but I'm not totally against it, I'll use two examples of this. The first example is World War II, this war is the war that I think that war is justified because if we didn't go to war then, Many more people would have died than if we went in as well as the fact as that the world would now be run by Nazis and we wouldn't want that either. My second example is the war in Vietnam; the only reason we went to this war was an act out of paranoia not that we shouldn't have been afraid, the results of the "domino affect" is really something to fear, but we should have at least calmed down and made sure nothing was wrong. Plus we went there for so many years just to watch the border between northern and southern Vietnam when during that time had we not been at war we could have put so much funding into something useful like education or science.
I don't think war is ever justified because war always causes violence and people's death. If that happens, more people will die. The wars might turn into war isn't a fair game, it is the fight to the death.

Tuesday night's homework - (that's today)

In class today we will be exploring the theme of war. Countries have been fighting wars for centuries and will probably continue to fight them so long as people disagree.

Please post to this blog entry your answer to the following question:

When do you feel war is justified? Is it ever? This is not such a simple question, so please think about your answer before you post and remember to proofread before you publish your answer.

Teacherease grading scale...

There are still inaccuracies in the teacher ease grading scale... Use teacher ease as an indicator and tracker of the work you are doing... NOT the final result...

For instance, a 91 is coming up as a B+, but a 91 to me is an A-. Please realize that teacher ease doesn't always spit out the 100% right totals... plus it is never 100% updated.

To work on getting a better grade (if you are interested), you can do any or all of the following:

participate in class discussion

keep up with class work when it is assigned

do homework when it is due

conference with me whenever you don't understand something

do the best that you can on all of your assignments

Keep up with independent reading

stop focusing on the grade and focus on the learning... at the end of the year as long as you are achieving a 3 or 4 in all necessary standards, then you are doing great.

Homework for the weekend - see you on Tuesday

Please post to this entry:
How do you believe our country's values have changed since its formatation?

Thing about what we talked about in class today... and what do you believe are our core beliefs and values now as a country?

Anthony's Book talk two

The book I read is Ark Angle by Anthony Horowite. The book is about a fourteen year old boy named Alex Rider. He is a spy for an agency called MI6. There is a man called Devilin, he is the creator of Ark Angle, the first hotel on the moon. MI6 thought that he was up to something so they sent Alex to go and investigate. It was all fine in the beginning but then Alex found out Devilin's plan. He was going to blow up Ark Angel ti such a way that the hotel would stay in one peace. then it will be forced off the moon and sent hetiling towarts earth. Then it was going to land on Washington and wipe out the entire city. Alex had to go up in space and defuse the bomb in the hotel.

Literature Circles - Remember to bring books

Good evening everyone:

In an effort to create some consistent time for the lit. circles, every Thursday during period 3 702 should bring their lit. circle books and every Friday during period 7, 731 should have their lit circle book.

Please make sure to come prepared with your book and your readers' sourcebook.

Have a good night.

Editing practice using worksheets

http://occawlonline.pearsoned.com/divisions/longman/long_rude_techedit_3/dep.html - more challenging - do with parents

http://www.quia.com/pop/104212.html

Start with these....

Editing - the big scary monster, so it seems...

It seems that everyone's greatest fear is the editing section. Today we will be doing one in class and going over it. On Thursday, I will make sure to have several editing sections to practice. It's really about practice and exposure.

I'd like to remind everyone, that they can practice everyday with their own work... Even in the posts about what your concerns are there were many careless mistakes. Like the word careless is spelled with an "e". When you start a new sentence after a period, the first word should be capitalized. Just because you are writing to the blog doesn't make you exempt from standard written English... practice, practice, practice!

Anthony Baffo ELA

I think that the test will be easy. All I have to do is Read the passage and Answer the question.I would like to go over the part were we fix the spelling in the story or passage.

Anthony Baffo
The test was little hard but easy. This was just a taste and I think the test is half hard. The stories were a little interesting because one of the true stories are neat and true.

I would be delited for some help again

If you would, can you please tell me what happened during class? Post in comments please.

Adam Liang

My post that i did yesterday.

I have learned a lot in WJPS since the begining of the year but I think that I have mastered or at least gotten better in parts of speech. I know when to use most of them and I have a clear idea of what each one is. I think I have mastered a lot of them but I can still improve, I still need improvement with my prepositions.
Please note that i did this yesterday, you can see it in the older posts section.

Homework for Janurary 3rd 2008

I feel like there are some skills which I have mastered and some in which I haven't. Some skills I have mastered are note taking, descriptive writing, and brainstorming. I think that the skills which I should work on are mapping, peer revision, and choosing a "just right" book because I have been choosing books which suits my interests but are too easy...and I feel as if I am not challenging myself enough.

-Emma Malefakis 731

homework 1/3/08 - pcjem49@netzero.com

Of all the standards i think that I've mastered listening reading and writing for information although when it comes speaking for information, and everything for literary responses I could use a bit of improvement. When working in a group I function well as a follower meaning I have trouble getting my ideas out once I have them, so for group work I only mastered writing, reading, and listening, I definitely need some work in speaking.
School is now the hardest thing ever. Iam trying to get good grades in humanities. Get the book reports done and try getting a exellent grade. Most people do very hard work like people who create video games. Like reading people always read for example: shows have scripts and actors have to read them and memorize them.

Tonight's Homework

I feel that I've mastered the colonial and indian standards.I think that I need to work on the writing
standards.I really don't feel comfortable with it.

Yesterday's Homework

I will try to complete all of the new year goals set by the class. Such as the no dozing off in class.
I do that a lot. I'll try to get more energy everyday by sleeping a lot more. I usually doze off when I'm sleepy. And i am always very sleepy.

Tonights homework

I believe I know how to free write now and i had also improved a lot on my partner kills. during this year i know i got a lot better in parts of speech and learned some more that i didn't know last year.
-lawrence

Tonight's Homework

I feel as if I have mastered freewriting and some other skills. I have also improved on reading maps. I feel as if I could use some work on writing newspaper articles like feature stories and regular newspapers. Another thing that I improved on this year was parts of speech. I am much better at parts of speech than I was last year. I am sure that I will be able to improve upon thses things throughout the year and next year too.

Can Someone Help?

Can someone give me a summary of what we did in class today? Post it in the comments, thanks in advance.

I have learned a lot in WJPS since the begining of the year but I think that I have mastered or at least gotten better in parts of speech. I know when to use most of them and I have a clear idea of what each one is. I think I have mastered a lot of them but I can still improve, I still need improvement with my prepositions.

At first I had alot of truble with reading a map, but now I know how to read a map better. I still need to get better.

contributing to the class

This year I plan to contribute to the class's goals by trying to help my classmates out whenever I can.

Correction for Stephanie T.

What I meant, in my writing when I said For the new tri-mister I would like everything to be more organized... I meant that as an individual, not as a class.

New Class Goals- Stephanie T. =)

I plan on contributing to the new class goals set by the class, by trying my best. Also trying not to TALK. Handing in work, and projects on time, follow the behavior sheet in class. Try my best to succeed, and to keep on task. I also would like for the new tri-mister to have everything more organize. I will try my best!!

How do I plan to contribut to the class

today in class we stared to talk about our goals that we have for this year. The class made a list of goals that we have. So thrn the teacher asked how can we contribut. There is many was you can do that. Like doing the things you are suppost to do. Not tring to get into a fight with one another. So I think that is some of the ways you can contribut to the class.

Setting Class Goals

In class today we spent a lot of time thinking about our academic goals individually, but also as a learning community. How can each of your contribute the helping the class succeed in those goals?

702 Goals:
1. to work together
2. manage time better in small groups with teacher guidance
3. to pay attention more
4. to participate productively
5. to not talk out of turn
6. to stay on topic
7. to hand in all work on time
8. to always try your best

731 Goals:
1. To make better use of group work time (staying on task, open communication, compromise, and respect)
2. To actively participate
3. More group class work
4. More freewriting / focusing activities
5. To be a thoughtful students
6. to always try your best

Post to this blog to let us know.

Welcome Back!

I would like to wish everyone a happy new year and make some reminders.

If you didn't turn in your scrapbooks, they are due on Friday, 1/4

ELA tests are on the 15th and 16th (Tuesday and Wednesday)... we will be preparing for them so come to class ready.

Great to have everyone back.
