I felt sympathetic towards the Mexicans, becasue the Americans were forcing the Mexicans to sell there land. Then the Americans president was commanding the war and was trying to push the Mexicans to sell there land, but it turned out differently then thought. Then the Americans went to war with the Mexicans and took over many Mexican lands. Then the Americans won and took over there land forcefully. I think that the Americans have no right to force others into selling there land and they had made Mexico come to desperate measures.
Like Lawrence, I feel sympathy for the Mexicans. Even though what President Polk did was for the good of his country, I feel as if it was wrong. However, if President Polk did not tempt the Mexicans to go to war, the United States of America would definitely not have been as big and grand as it is today. Also, I do not beleive that Mexico should have been as ofended when we offered to buy their land. However, pressuring someone into selling land that they love is not right, so I believe that the Mexicans' attacks against us were just. In the end though, the Americans won the Mexican American War and got the land by force. I would like to learn more about the Mexican American War.
I agree with Lawrence. I feel bad for the Mexicans because the Americans where forcing the Mexicans to gave up what was rightfully theirs. They Americans even afford money, i think if they said no then it should have stayed instead of having to go to war.
even though i should be siding for the american side i kind of feel bad for the mexicans because we really didnt give them a choice, we jus kind of took over. i dont think that we should have invaded their country like that.
I agree with Lawrence because the Americans were kind of forcing the Mexicans to sell the land. Americans already has plenty of land but, they were probably very greedy at that time and just decided to capture Mexican land also. That was not fair at all because Americans were also slightly more experienced and had an advantage. Although I live in America myself, I still side with my Mexicans.
I think it's interesting what rachii<<3 said about how she feels she should be siding with the Americans (because we're American). But personally I don't really care understand why anyone should feel the need to be sympathetic to their own country when their own country is doing something wrong, s I was glad that she sided with the Mexicans. I don't think it was a just war at all either because we invaded their territory because we basically believed that we deserved the land and that we had the right to their land (manifest destiny). So I feel bad for the Mexicans who eventually had to turn to a exiled previous dictator, because they knew he was their only hope. Also it said in the show we watched at school that we attacked them when we knew they were having problems in their country financially and in other ways, which made it even more unfair. So I also wish that we hadn't won the war. I was thinking that maybe this war explains why a lot of people think Americans think they're better than everyone else.
I found this website to be remarkably helpful. I hope everyone else did too.
Throughout ALL of the wars that we have been discussing about, I had to side with the Mexicans instead of the Americans. The Americans wanted to buy the Mexican's land and when the Mexicans refused the offer, President Polk told them that America would forcefully take the land.
I was surprised that the U.S. would do something like that because they went through many wars, and were bullied by other countries (England, France). I did not expect them to forcefully take land that did not belong to them.
